The smoke unit housing is original and was detail cleaned before the installation of the new smoke element. Engine was refinished due to some minor paint loss on the top of engine caused by it being taken out of the box and put back in after every use. E unit contacts were replaced as routine maintenance to keep the forward neutral reverse operating right. This set I am selling is my own set that I have had since it was new.
The motor was detailed cleaned and new motor brushes were installed. All new parts mentioned are exact Lionel replacements. So, now it's getting time for me to part with some of these goodies. It has no breaks or cracks and is in pretty decent shape.
Changing the elements is very simple.
For sale is a one owner postwar Lionel 736 engine and 2671W tender that has been well maintained. With this sale, I am also including a small package that will contain and extra new head light bulb, a new extra set of motor brushes, a few new extra wheel screws and a extra new liquid type smoke element along with the original pellet type smoke element in the event the new owner prefers the older type. This engine set being over 60 years old, it definitely isn't anything that is new but if it is maintained as well as I have maintained all my trains, I see no reason why it should't be around and running for another 60 years.
This new smoke unit will smoke you out of the room see photo showing engine smoking when in operation. It has been rewired and the whistle is loud, sharp, clear and crisp with no drag to it.
The only part of the engine body that was not refinished was the original 736 number boards which the original are the original in pretty decent shape. Also, the operating couplet works great.
With all that, a new smoke gasket was installed. That will include shipping via USPS priority mail insured. It's better to have them and not need them rather than needing them and not have them especially when you are getting ready to show them.
Has no bends, dents, breaks or rust and never did have any. The tender whistle motor was detail cleaned with new brushes installed. The only reason I am selling this set is because I inherited 2 more 736 sets like this that were passed down the line in the family to me and I don't have anyone left to pass them on. Even though these extra items may never need to be used, I found it to be a lot nicer to have some of these extra parts on hand if the time comes when you really may need them.
The rest of the items replaced were replaced only to maintain the appearance. The finish is an exact Lionel match. Engine also has new e unit contacts and barrel, new hand rails and stanchions, new collector rollers, new main side rods, new wheel screws, new draw bar and new boiler front that includes a new headlight lens.
The boiler front was replaced because the original one was starting not to close and stay closed right. It even has a new smoke stack cleaning instruction decal under the cab roof as it originally had. Sorry about that but having only one bad experience with that, was enough.
Equipped with manga traction, this engine has great pulling power and runs great.
